Results That Matter: Gender Equality Across the Nexus: Evidence from Humanitarian, Development and Peace Programming
How can humanitarian, development and peace efforts better respond to protracted crises while advancing gender equality?
These companion learning briefs from Oxfam Canada make the case for integrating gender equality at the heart of the Humanitarian-Development-Peace (HDP) nexus.
Drawing on evidence and lessons from projects in Myanmar, Ethiopia, South Sudan and Uganda, the publications show how gender-responsive nexus programming can strengthen community resilience, support women’s leadership, improve access to education, livelihoods, WASH, sexual and reproductive health services, and contribute to longer-term peace and sustainability. The briefs highlight practical examples of locally led, gender-transformative programming that addresses both immediate humanitarian needs and the structural drivers of inequality.
Together, Results That Matter: The Impact of Gender-Responsive Nexus and Integrating Gender Equality into the Humanitarian-Development-Peace Nexus demonstrate that investing in gender equality across humanitarian, development and peace efforts delivers more inclusive, sustainable and effective outcomes for women, girls and their communities. They also offer key lessons for practitioners and policymakers on localization, coordination, adaptive programming, and strengthening monitoring and learning in crisis-affected settings.
