Stand with Us

We have been watching a humanitarian catastrophe created by Israel’s genocide in Gaza. While the Government of Canada recognizes that violations of international law are happening and calls for an immediate ceasefire, they have yet to take measures that reflect the gravity of the situation and limit their possible complicity in atrocity crimes.

If you are feeling sad, angry, disappointed – we hear you. We feel it, too. But we are seeing a shift, public support for stronger measures against Israel is working. Just last week, Canada recognized Palestinian statehood at the UN. While this is historic, it only makes a difference if it is followed by strong actions of accountability.

The Power is in the People

During her visit to Canada, our colleague Bushra Khalidi, Oxfam’s Policy Lead for the Occupied Palestinian Territory, told us that “the power is in the people.” She asked us to keep speaking up for the people of Gaza. Palestinians need us now more than ever.

Oxfam's Bushra Khalidi speaks during a Parliamentary Breakfast on September 24, 2025.

Together, we have the power to make a difference for Palestinians in Gaza as they experience relentless violence and displacement while being deprived of basic human needs.

Will you help us keep up the pressure to stop the genocide in Gaza?

3 actions canada must take

1) Stop All Weapons Transfers to Israel

The Canadian government must cease the transfer of Canadian-made arms and arms components to Israel. This includes closing loopholes that allow for transfers through third-countries such as the US.

2) Stop trading with illegal settlements and cancel the Canada Israel Free Trade Agreement (CIFTA)

The Canadian government must cancel CIFTA to avoid further entrenching Israel’s illegal occupation of the Palestinian territory, especially as Israel moves to annex more Palestinian land across the West Bank. Canada must also  implement legislation that explicitly bans trade (including services and investments) with settlements and adopt other recommendations listed in Oxfam’s report “Trading with Illegal Settlements”.

3) Apply restrictive measures to promote accountability to international law

The Canadian government must expand the use of restrictive measures against individuals and parties that carry out or advocate for breaches of international law in the occupied Palestinian territories.
