“Not In My Name”: Oxfam Canada Rallies Prominent Canadians to Demand Ottawa End Complicity in Genocide Against Palestinians
Ottawa, ON – September 23, 2025 – Oxfam Canada will lead a press conference on Parliament Hill at 8:30 AM ET today, calling on the federal government to end its complicity in Israel’s genocide of the Palestinian people.
The event will feature Bushra Khalidi, Oxfam’s Policy Lead for the Occupied Palestinian Territories, who has traveled from Palestine to share firsthand insights on the escalating ground invasion of Gaza City, the collapse of humanitarian aid access, and the devastating consequences of Canadian policy choices. She will be joined by Lauren Ravon, Executive Director of Oxfam Canada, Dr. Yipeng Ge, and Member of Parliament Alexandre Boulerice, alongside leading cultural figures, and activists lending their voices to the Not In My Name campaign.
Launched last week, Not In My Name has already galvanized more than 100 prominent Canadians – including actors, scholars, business leaders, and activists – calling for Ottawa to immediately halt arms sales to Israel and take urgent diplomatic and legal action to stop the atrocities.
Since October 2023, Palestinians have endured an unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe. Tens of thousands have been killed, entire neighborhoods reduced to rubble, hospitals and schools destroyed, and families forced into starvation. In the West Bank, escalating violence, displacement, and repression have compounded the crisis. The UN Independent International Commission of Inquiry and leading genocide scholars have confirmed that Israeli authorities and forces have committed four of the five genocidal acts defined under the 1948 Genocide Convention.
Yet, Canada continues to approve arms exports to Israel and has failed to take meaningful steps to uphold international law.
“Canada cannot claim neutrality while genocide unfolds before the world’s eyes,” said Bushra Khalidi. “Every day, I witness families destroyed, children starving, and communities erased. Canadians are saying loudly and clearly: not in our name. Silence is complicity.”
The Not In My Name campaign represents a sweeping national outcry against Canadian inaction. Across the country, Canadians are sharing testimonies, art, and messages that demand Ottawa stop enabling genocide and align its policies with justice and human rights.
