Statement by Robert Fox

“Action to fix outdated and unfair international tax rules is welcome and long overdue,” says Oxfam Canada’s Robert Fox. “But these rules affect everyone, and it is often the poorest countries that suffer the greatest losses due to tax avoidance. G-20 Finance Ministers, including Minister Jim Flaherty, must ensure that negotiations to adopt new international tax rules include all countries – from the very start of the process. Developing countries are missing out on billions in lost tax revenue that could help pay for crucial services like hospitals and schools. They must be included – and given the means – to participate on an equal footing in the process to adopt new international rules.”
