Representation & Leadership

There has been a striking correlation between women in leadership and successful pandemic responses.

THE CHANGES OXFAM WANTS TO SEE:

The federal government should:

  1. Commit to appointing a gender-balanced cabinet and ensure more leadership positions within the bureaucracy are filled with Indigenous women, women of colour and 2SLGBTQ+ people.
  2. Commit to sustainable funding for the Canadian women’s movement by allocating $100 million per year to support diverse women’s rights organizations across the country.
  3. Invest in community programming that addresses the racial and economic barriers that hinder young community leaders from entering electoral politics as well as enact legislation to incentivize political parties to increase the number of women recruited and elected in Canada.

Questions for candidates in your riding:

  1. What actions has your party taken to encourage more women to run for office?
  2. If your party forms the next government, will you have a gender-balanced cabinet?
  3. Will your party support and adequately fund the Canadian women’s movement?
