Poverty & Racial Justice
The COVID-19 pandemic has exposed the inequities of poverty in Canada and intensified calls for the government to address the long-term impacts of colonialism and systemic racism.
The changes Oxfam wants to see:
The federal government should:
- Continue to collect and track race-based data that is equity-focused through Statistics Canada.
- Ensure sustainable funding for the anti-racism secretariat to monitor and address systemic racism in federal institutions.
- Mandate anti-racism and anti-oppression training in federal health agencies, and work with provincial and territorial counterparts to do the same.
Questions for candidates in your riding:
- Will your party commit to ongoing funding for anti-racism initiatives at the municipal, provincial and federal levels?
- Will your party commit to providing core funding to support racialized and Indigenous women’s organizations so that they can continue to tackle poverty and gender inequality?
- How will your party reduce income inequality, improve working conditions and create access to equitable employment opportunities for racialized Canadians and immigrants at all skill levels across sectors?
