Solidarity in the Fight Against Anti-Black Racism

Black Lives Matter

We believe in a just world without poverty. We can’t fight inequality, or end poverty, if we don’t challenge racism. As a feminist organization, we are clear that racial justice and gender justice go hand in hand. To promote women’s rights we must fight racism too.

We believe in the power of people to work together for a fairer world. We extend our solidarity and support to Black communities in Canada and around the world as they articulate the pain caused by systemic racism and organize to speak out about changes that need to happen to the attitudes, behaviors, policies and institutions that fuel anti-Black racism in our society. We condemn the use of violence against protesters.

We will seek to make space for Black women and their organizations. We will share and amplify diverse voices. If our voice seems quiet, know it is not complacency. Giving space is active, and we are working to do it now more than ever. We will work to show the connections between movements organizing for their rights here in Canada and around the world.

As a feminist organization that advocates for human rights and equality, we are reflecting on how we can continue to diversify our leadership and staff community, support allies in Canada working in this critical space and meaningfully engage in a journey to further decolonize our work at home and around the world. We don’t have all the answers. But we are committed to asking ourselves hard questions and acting where we can. We must seek to do better and keep learning ourselves.
