In Mozambique, the passage of a new Family Law has the potential to provide greater protection and recognition of women in the family structure.

The law was passed in 2004, but is still not widely known outside the capital, Maputo.  Oxfam partner Forum Mulher is working to ensure  women across the country are able to benefit from the changes the law enacted.

Selected parts of the law have been translated into seven local languages and an educational comic book will help people learn about the legislation.

Forum Mulher is also actively working with community leaders so they can incorporate the law into negotiations with families in conflict.
