I’m very lucky to work for Oxfam Canada. Sometimes I travel to remarkable places and meet extraordinary people who are making such a difference in their lives, in the lives of their families and in our increasingly globalized society. Recently I was in Tanzania, visiting some of the projects that Oxfam’s supporters make possible. As we were being introduced in the village we were visiting, suddenly there was a great deal of commotion.

The women in the village were so excited to see someone from Oxfam Canada! That’s because it was our Unwrapped program that brought the gift of goats to the women of the community.

It seems so simple. Goats. And in one way it is. But the goats that generous Canadians like you gave to the women we were visiting also began to shift the way the community works; leading to far more economic independence and a greater role in decision-making for girls and women in what had always been a very male dominated culture.
