Venktesh Sharma is an international student attending St Mary’s University in Halifax. Venktesh was a team facilitator and supporter as Oxfam hosted Dr Vandana Shiva in a participatory event. A people-person, Venktesh is an exemplary ambassador for Oxfam in the Maritimes. In staffing local market tables, he speaks respectfully yet in an engaging manner to all market-goers, drawing them in to Oxfam’s work and inviting their participation and discussion.

Venktesh was drawn to support Oxfam because of our focus on organic farming and the promotion of women’s rights. “I felt I had something to contribute.” said Venktesh. “I love volunteering with Oxfam. We don’t get paid, but we are rewarded with skills and work experience that we cannot buy with money. I am inspired by Oxfam because it is the only NGO that promotes organic farming, anti-poverty and women’s rights on an international level. And I am really happy to be part of a great local Oxfam team!”
