"With its emphasis on women’s rights and gender equality at the heart of the fight against global poverty, joining the Oxfam community at Memorial University was an easy decision. Our work has helped make a real difference in the lives of those in dire need. As such, I have grown tremendously as a social activist and have become passionate about Oxfam’s work.
I have found the events surrounding the 2012 International Women’s Day to be particularly rewarding. As a member of the Fundraising Team within Oxfam at MUN, I helped organize our annual Gala raising about $1400 in support of Oxfam Canada’s GROW Campaign. I was also a member of the National Planning Group for this year’s International Women’s Day National Campus Action. I served on the Communications Team, which gave me the opportunity to interact with all of the lovely Oxfammers from coast to coast, providing information and answering questions surrounding the event. This, and being surrounded by such motivated and talented people in the National Planning Group, was a great learning experience.
My participation in Oxfam has led me to become a more passionate and impactful social activist. In the years to come, I have every intention of continuing to do my part to build a better world where no one lives in poverty."
