‘Tis the season… for a friendly challenge

by Oxfam | December 1, 2011

In the true spirit of holiday giving, the Oxfam Ontario Regional Steering Committee (ORSC) will spend the next six weeks out-doing, and, dare I say, out-giving each other. ORSC members, beware: I'll stop at nothing to prove my holiday spirit. 'Tis the season after all.

What's got us so competitive? We've launched our Holiday Fundraising Challenge to see who can raise the most money for Oxfam.

Rather than torment family and friends with off-key Christmas carols, we've decided to do something that will make people actually want to give: a party!

We're each hosting a holiday party, where guests can enjoy good food, friends, family and fun with all of their holiday goodwill, helping raise money for Oxfam Canada. My goal is to raise $250. Together, the ORSC aims to raise over $1000.

Interested? Join us in the challenge! It's super easy. Have a party. And ask everyone who comes to donate $10 or $20, or whatever they can give, to Oxfam rather than presenting a gift to the host. At my party, I'm going to have a big, wrapping-paper covered box at the door for people to drop in their donations, plus information available on the GROW campaignOpens a new window and Oxfam Unwrapped.

Oh, and one more thing: be sure to tell us that you're joining the challenge. In January, we'll feature challenge participants in Voices for Change and report on total success.

So, on behalf of the ORSC, I challenge you to join us or out-raise us in contributions. Happy fundraising!

Leanne Rasmussen is a volunteer member of Oxfam's Ontario Regional Steering Committee.
