GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE & SEXUAL AND REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH AND RIGHTS

Pandemic-related stressors have increased gender-based violence, while making it harder for women and gender-diverse people across Canada to access key services, including sexual and reproductive health services.

The changes Oxfam wants to see:

The federal government should:

  1. Disburse long-term, sustainable, flexible and core funding to women’s shelters, sexual assault centres and women’s rights organizations to ensure their sustainability.
  2. Launch and resource the National Action Plan to End Gender-Based Violence.
  3. Implement a national pharmacare strategy that includes coverage for the full range of contraceptive methods, and work with provinces and territories to address longstanding barriers to abortion care, including access to medical abortion.

Questions for candidates in your riding:

  1. Will your party provide stable, long-term funding to women’s shelters and other services that address gender-based violence?
  2. Will your party maintain Canada’s position as a global leader on sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR)?
  3. How will your party increase access to comprehensive sexual and reproductive health services across the country, particularly for people in remote and rural communities?
