Conflict & Crises

The impacts of conflict, violence and climate-induced disasters are compounded by COVID-19, with women refugees the most vulnerable.

The changes Oxfam wants to see:

The federal government should:

  1. Accelerate refugee admissions into Canada to meet its 2021 target of 36,000, including those delayed by the COVID pandemic. Ensure that the recently announced 20,000 spots for vulnerable Afghans are additional to this.
  2. Increase Canada’s investment in humanitarian assistance to meet rising needs.
  3. Repeal its arms deal with Saudi Arabia, which is waging war on neighbouring Yemen and deliberately targeting civilians.

Questions to ask candidates in your riding:

  1. Will your party commit to meeting the 2021 target for refugees, ensuring that the spots for vulnerable Afghans are additional to this target? Will your party increase the number of refugees to be resettled in Canada yearly?
  2. What measures will your party take to ensure Canada’s response to humanitarian emergencies prioritizes refugee women and girls and promotes women’s leadership?
  3. Will your party suspend Canada’s arms deal with Saudi Arabia?
