Campus groups guide
Oxfam campus clubs are great places for students to become involved with social justice awareness campaigns, fundraising and advocacy.
Oxfam believes that a more just, fair, and connected world depends as much on changing behaviours in the North as supporting development projects in the Global South. It is in this spirit that the idea of campus clubs was born. Youth leaders across the country work tirelessly to inspire and equip others to advocate for social justice and improved living conditions for people in the Global South.
Oxfam Canada’s campus club program contributes significantly to its objectives, mission and mandates.
More specifically, campus clubs:
- Represent a strong and effective youth-led national campaigning force.
Clubs assist Oxfam in planning and executing national advocacy moments. Clubs are often are available for immediate and reactive campaign actions;
- Create effective change on their individual campuses.
They educate and inspire fellow students to act. They impact on-campus policies, such as adopting fair-trade and ethical purchasing programs. They partner with other student groups to maximize their voice and impact;
- Are fundraisers.
Whether in response to humanitarian crises, or in promotion of Oxfam’s Unwrapped program, campus clubs raise thousands of dollars for Oxfam Canada’s work;
- Are advocators.
Campus club members are encouraged to voice their concerns to local government representatives. Speaking at the behest of Oxfam, members meet with their MPs to discuss policy changes that can greatly impact the world’s poor.
The 2011-12 Campus Club Guide is a comprehensive guide produced by campus club leaders themselves. Each chapter highlights the best practices and strategies involved in your role as a campus club activist. Please use this tool and the 2011 Big Book of Change to assist you with your work as an Oxfam leader!
