The Gift of Peace Program
Have you ever been perplexed as to what to give family members and friends for birthdays or during the holiday season?
Perhaps you're a little uncomfortable with the excessive consumerism involved. Karen Olsson and John Kennedy, monthly SharePlan donors from Truro, Nova Scotia, have been giving a Gift of Peace to Oxfam in lieu of gifts for a number of years now. Karen explains, "I like the way that Gift of Peace promotes awareness – that there are other people out there less fortunate than us. We have so much while others have so little."
Oxfam's Gift of Peace is a different way of giving – one that helps others help themselves. Here's how it works. You make a donation to Oxfam on behalf of a friend or family member. We send that person a beautiful card (or we can send it to you so that you can mail it yourself). The card contains this message: "A Gift of Peace in your name has been sent to Oxfam Canada with best wishes from.…"
To request a Gift of Peace card, be sure to include the name and address of the person on whose behalf you are making the donation. You'll receive a tax receipt for the amount of the gift and the recipient of the card will be pleased to know that people around the world are being helped to build more secure and peaceful lives.
