Goats and donkeys put smiles on young faces

We'd like to introduce you to some of Oxfam Canada's youngest supporters! Four year old Oscar and two year old Thomas Green!

While preparing for Oscar's birthday on September 18th, mom Deirdre Evans was very aware of all of the toys that were in their house, and was dreading the thought of another birthday party with a focus on even more commercial toys that the boys would eventually lose interest in.

As a monthly SharePlan donor, Oxfam has been part of the Evans-Green family for years. So Deirdre thought, why not take a cue from Unwrapped, and ask parents for a small donation to Oxfam towards a donkey instead of gifts. The concept of a donkey was something tangible and cute that the boys could understand and recognize, and the funds raised would really be making a difference. Oscar knew that he was helping children that did not have many things, and his 4th birthday raised $100!

For Thomas' 2nd birthday on November 10th, Deirdre and Rob decided once again to raise funds for a donkey, and they had an overwhelming response, raising $200! These young boys have learned early on just how easy it can be to help create a world without poverty, and help children just like them to live a better life with their families and in their communities!
