hungry4change Skip a Meal

hungry4change

Skipping a meal or snack can change the world.  It is the simplest form of fasting, yet effectively illustrates what it means to be hungry.

How it works?

For Businesses
Lunch is a communal time at many businesses.  This is the perfect time for workplace communities to skip a meal together on behalf of those who are hungry.  You can work together with your human resources department to organize a day where employees skip lunch and donate the money that they would have spent on their lunch to Oxfam Canada.  This can motivate employees to participate in an inter-office challenge to raise the most funds for Oxfam Canada.

For Elementary Schools
Hungry4change skip a meal/snack for Oxfam Canada can fit into the curriculum of students at the elementary school age.  Conducting a hungry4change fast may not be appropriate for children of a young age.  However, skipping their lunch or snack-time can teach students how it feels to be hungry.  This can be integrated into class room learning about poverty and hunger.

For High Schools, Colleges and Universities
The high school cafeteria is the hub of school activity.  Students and teachers can organize a day where the cafeteria does not serve food and encourages students to skip that meal and donate the money they would normally spend on lunch to Oxfam Canada.  Students can work with their student council to put this event into action.

Who can participate?
You.  Year after year, Oxfam Canada's effectiveness depends on people like you - on campuses, in schools and at work contributing to the fight against poverty.  These battles are often waged in settings like a school cafeteria, classroom or your office, yet their collective impact is enormous.  Together we can change the world.
