December 1: World AIDS Day
World
AIDS Day is observed every year on December 1.
It was first observed in 1988 after a summit of health ministers from
around the world called for a spirit of social tolerance and a greater exchange
of information on HIV/AIDS. World AIDS
Day serves to strengthen the global effort to face the challenges of the AIDS
pandemic.
Oxfam Canada is a member of The
Blueprint for Action on Women and HIV/AIDS is a multi-sector coalition of
HIV-positive women, Canadian and international HIV/AIDS organizations, and a
variety of women's and reproductive rights groups advocating for better
prevention, services and supports for women and girls infected and affected by
HIV/AIDS.
