Global Week of Action for Education 2008

Global Campaign for EducationWorld's Biggest Lesson 23rd April 2008

Imagine you can't read or write would it hold you back?

Every day, millions of people miss out on going to school, which means they miss out on the chance to live out of poverty. Oxfam believes this scandal must end and that means having education services that are free, public and have enough teachers.

In fact, 72 million children and 774 million adults are being denied this right.

Oxfam isn't fighting for these basic rights on its own. As part of the Global Campaign for Education, we're joining in to help break the World's Biggest Lesson.

On April 23, people of all ages and backgrounds in over 100 countries will learn about the basic right to a good quality education, and will ask politicians what they are doing to make sure that everyone has access to a quality education.

Anyone can take part in this lesson schools, community groups, politicians and journalists. In fact, the more people who take part the more world leaders will take notice and deliver the money and political action needed to make education for all a reality.
