Hollow political declaration won't help, says Oxfam Canada

To salvage a chance at effective global action, Copenhagen must set a deadline for full, binding legal agreements within the first half of 2010. But a deadline is not enough governments must also set boundaries that are consistent with the science and the needs of people living in poverty.

Oxfam Canada Executive Director Robert Fox, said:

'The spectre of a hollow political declaration hangs over Copenhagen.

"These talks are about the lives and livelihoods of all people - especially the poorest and most vulnerable. World leaders seem to have lost sight of this.

'To salvage a chance at effective global action, Copenhagen must set a deadline for full, binding legal agreements within the first half of 2010. But a deadline is not enough governments must also set boundaries that are consistent with the science and the needs of people living in poverty.
