Roxy Theatre, 320 20th St. West
Saskatoon, SK
Taking Root tells the dramatic story of Kenyan Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Wangari Maathai whose simple act of planting trees grew into a nationwide movement to safeguard the environment, protect human rights, and defend democracy—a movement for which this charismatic woman became an iconic inspiration.
The workshop is intended to encourage participants to think critically about the G8 and consider the limitations of a largely homogenous group representing the largest economies in the world, brought together to make decisions for the masses. What would happen if that group was more diverse? What would happen if the Saskatoon W8 were invited to the table? What would they bring to the table? How would key agenda items be discussed differently by the W8 as opposed to the G8? Workshop participants will compare and contrast the profiles of the G8 members and the Saskatoon W8 members and discuss the G8 agenda from differing perspectives.
