Milagros Telles Rios, Jesus Menendez, Cuba

Milagros Telles Rios is a female food hero because she is one of the few women who is serving as president of a sugarcane cooperative in Cuba, has promoted women into key positions in her cooperative and managed to get equally distributed household work at her home with her husband and son. She is a leader in the National Association of Small Farmers (ANAP) in Las Tunas. For the past ten years she has presided over the agricultural cooperative “Sabino Pupo” specializing in sugar cane production with exceptional results. In particular her cooperative has been successful in areas related to reforestation and soil conservation.
