Helen Voogd, Whitehorse, Yukon

Helen Voogd is a female food hero because as a co-owner of Bean North Coffee Roasting Co. Ltd. and long-time fair trader, she supports long-term relationships with small-scale coffee producer organizations. One of these is Nicaragua’s FEM (Between Women Foundation), an organic coffee-producing co-op that also promotes women’s rights, access to land, organic 
farming practices and food sovereignty. Working together, the women at FEM have created dramatic, positive change, with greater income and more autonomy. Helen believes all small-scale farmers and their families deserve a high quality of life and a healthy environment to live and work in. By working with these remarkable women and other co-op members, Helen is proud to be part of the change that is happening.
