hungry4change is an educational program used to promote awareness about world hunger and poverty through fundraising events for Oxfam Canada. Over the last 15 years, this program has encouraged students, faith-based groups and others to take action on political and social issues that affect our communities locally and globally. The funds raised through the hungry4change program allow Oxfam Canada to continue striving for basic human rights for all. Whatever draws you to working with Oxfam Canada from hunger issues to humanitarian relief to human rights you will recognize the significance of the hungry4change program; it's about joining Oxfam Canada's global community through whatever means and rolling up your sleeves.
'Be the change you wish to see in the world. Mahatma Ghandi
Here's what one of our volunteers had to say about Oxfam's hungry4change program:
"My name is Alex Nataros and I've been involved with Oxfam Canada for over four years. Back in grade twelve I organized a 24-hourhungry4change fast at my high school that raised nearly $6000 for Oxfam Canada's HIV/AIDS work in southern Africa. It was hugely inspiring to see 120 of my peers rally around the cause and fight hunger for a day to try and experience the challenges of living in poverty.
Oxfam Canada, unlike some other groups, looks at the root causes of poverty and injustice. They don't flash images of fly-swathed bloated-belly children or give out "Made in China" prizes for their hungry4change fasts, nor do they inappropriately call a fast a "famine". Oxfam Canada stands for helping people help themselves. Whether it's advocating to Make Trade Fair or pushing for controls on the arms trade, Oxfam stands for solutions, even when these might not be popular.
I have since spoken at several hungry4change events and have been impressed by every one of them. Oxfam Canada gives participants the tools and empowers them to raise awareness and be that difference. Go Oxfam go!"

Want to get involved?
Here's how:
INDIVIDUALS
Individual supporters people just like you - make Oxfam Canada strong. We are fortunate to have many individual donors and members whose efforts help Oxfam Canada spread the word about poverty and hunger.
COMMUNITIES
Consider approaching your community, civic, professional or religious organizations about participating in, or hosting a hungry4change event. Chances are these like-minded individuals share your concern and willingness to fight global poverty and hunger. These organizations may also have the people and programs available to assist in fundraising and educational events.
SCHOOLS and CAMPS
Oxfam Canada depends on the enthusiasm and commitment of students and teachers to aid in our work. We offer students/campers opportunities to become better educated and join the fight against global poverty and social injustice.
COLLEGES & UNIVERSITIES
Oxfam Canada receives enormous support from college and university students. We offer students a range of opportunities for education and involvement in our work.
BUSINESSES
On average, we spend a quarter of our lives at work; many of our co-workers are more than just colleagues. Invite these people to join your efforts to raise awareness and funds for those who are hungry by holding events that benefit Oxfam Canada at your place of business.
RESTAURANTS
Pick a day to have a set menu for your customers and let them know you are fundraising for Oxfam's work. The set menu could include an option of appetizers, entrées and desserts for a fixed price, however, customers would choose one course to skip and a portion of the fixed price will be donated to Oxfam. Or pick a day to donate a percentage of your sales to Oxfam. Or include an Oxfam brochure with every bill for your customers to take away and consider making a donation to Oxfam.
Once you decide on an event and a date, please make sure to register your event!
